The section of Highway 401 is arguably the most rural section of Highway 401. Highway 401 is 4-lanes for this entire section. Some of this part of The 401 has changed very little since originally being constructed in the 1950s and 60s. This includes some remaining examples of narrow 1950/60s style grass median, that has not yet been divided by a tall-wall concrete barrier. Of note, the section of Highway 401 bypassing the Thousand Islands Parkway was designed and built after the rest of the highway had already been finished. Because of this, it has a different, and newer feel to it. Cities along this stretch of the 401 included Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall.

AADT (2001):	Highest: 43,200 from Division Street (Exit # 617) to Montreal Road (Exit # 619) in Kingston;
	Lowest: 15,100 from Upper Canada Road (Exit # 758) to Stormont, Glengarry & Dundas Road 14 (Exit # 770) near Ingleside.

Road Info: Highway 401 is in good shape for this entire section. Traffic volumes are quite light by 401 standards on this section. Of note the section of Highway 401 between the two Thousand Island Parkway Exits, was the last section of the highway to be completed (in 1967). The Thousand Islands Parkway is actually the original alignment of Highway 401, and was bypassed due to public pressure to separate high speed distance traffic from the scenic parkway. The Thousand Islands Parkway is a recommended drive for travelers having a little extra time then necessary, and wishing scenic views of the St. Lawrence Parkway. There is a plaque commemorating the completion of Highway 401 in Ivey Lea. Highway 401 is 4-lanes for its entire length east of Kingston.
