California Highway 118

Western Terminus: Highway 126 in Ventura.

Eastern Terminus: Interstate 210 (Foothills Freeway) in Los Angeles.

Length: 47.6 Miles

Counties: Ventura, Los Angeles.

Routing: California Highway 118 links the heavily populated Simi Valley to the City of Los Angeles at Interstates 5, 405 and 210.  Highway 118 begins as a two lane road at Highway 126 in Ventura.  Through much of Ventura, Highway 118 is a conventional two-lane highway running through predominantly rural countryside.  Everything changes at the Highway 23 interchange.  East of Highway 23, Highway 118 follows the Simi Valley Freeway (now the Ronal Reagan Freeway) easterly across the Santa Susana Pass into Los Angeles County.  Highway 118 meets both Interstate 5 and 405 at large interchanges, and terminates at the Foothills Freeway (I-210).

Advanced exit signage located just west of the I-405 interchange.  In urban areas of California it is typical to see signs such as this one at regular intervals to identify the next three interchanges along a freeway.

Signage at the ramp from Highway 118 East to the 405 Freeway.  Note the control city of Sacramento for northbound movements.  Because the northern I-5 and 405 split is only about 2 miles north of the 118 Freeway, all Northbound I-5 traffic is directed northerly along the 405.

The westbound advanced signage for the 405 freeway is situated before the on-ramp from I-5 South have even merged with the Simi Valley Freeway.  The 405 converges with Interstate 5 about two miles north of Highway 118.  Note that the ramp from I-5 North that joins Highway 118 West does so from the left side of the road.  This minimizes turbulence along the Simi Valley Freeway between the closely spaced Highway 405 interchange (which departs from the right) and Interstate 5

Signage on the ramps from Highway 118 West to Interstate 5.  Guide signage in advance of the Long Beach Freeway interchange.  A fair number of signs at the western end of the 91 Freeway have been replaced from button copy to reflective sheeting.

Signage that is unfortunately partially obstructed for the Interstate 5 interchange.  Sacramento-bound traffic must use the Interstate 5 interchange.  There is no ramp from Westbound Highway 118 to Interstate 405 North.
